Meet The Crew: Captain Richard and First Mate + Chef Shannon

As kind and knowledgable as they come, our crew of two win the hearts of all our guests (just glance at our testimonials!)

Richard and Shannon Hallett are a married couple living an adventurous life as sailing professionals! The head of a sailing family, their two sons are also sailing professionals. Richard serves as captain, and Co-Captain/ First Mate Shannon is an incredible chef. Originally from South Africa and boasting seven years of experience as captains on 170+ charters in the BVI on multiple 48-50' catamarans, their knowledge, commitment to providing a five-star guest experience, and above-and-beyond care for your itinerary truly set the Abby Normal To experience apart.

Abby Normal To only has one crew, and they treat her with the utmost care as they would their own Yacht. Captain Richard is happy to have company sitting next to him at the helm while sailing, explaining the processes of sailing a 50-foot catamaran during a sail across Sir Francis Drake Channel or a sunrise sail to Anegada. Shanon can teach interested guests how to anchor or hook a mooring ball. If you're not up for learning to sail, the boat has several areas perfect for relaxing in paradise.

Richard sails guests on Abby Normal To to snorkel sites that are off the beaten path, to pristine beaches for lunch and a swim, or to explore the RMS Rhone. Shannon can set you up for island tours, scuba diving, or even a day diving for conch and making your own ceviche.

Certifications: Richard and Shannon both hold the UK RYA Yachtmaster and UK RYA Powerboat certification. Additionally, Shannon holds the UK Personal Survival Techniques certification, and Richard holds the UK VHF Shortrange Radio certification.
